Nathan Hale Schoolhouse Scheduled to Move January 5th & 6th Weathing Permitting

New London, CT: Nathan Hale Schoolhouse
Makes a New Year's Headline

Sometime during the week between Christmas and New Year's, the tiny schoolhouse where Connecticut's State Hero Nathan Hale taught New London's youth will be moved--again. For the sixth time in its 235-year-history, this little 1,200 s.f. building--sometimes irreverently referred to as "America's oldest mobile home"--will be shuffled to a new spot in the city's downtown public area called the Parade.

New London, as you may know, is redesigning the Parade, the public space near its Transportation Center, where the ferry shuttles people off to summer vacations and the train whisks them to points north and south. The Nathan Hale Schoolhouse often serves as tourists' unofficial info center, and so its location is important--not just to its owners, The Society of the Sons of the American Revolution--but to the city and Connecticut's tourism industry.

After the schoolhouse is moved, the SAR will be able to finish the restoration of the second floor. This floor will be used as a space for educational programs for school children who visit throughout the year.
Your donation will allow us to have heat in the school for the first time since 1900, lighting, new plaster, two dormers for natural light and the belfry which was originally there.

The SAR will keep the cost as low as possible with a lot of volunteer labor and grants which are being submitted.

Please help us reach our goal and teach more children.
