Docents for History
We are the only SAR state society to own and maintain Revolutionary War properties. And we have three of them,
which are the:
- Nathan Hale Schoolhouse in East Haddam
- Nathan Hale Schoolhouse in New London
- Governor Trumbull's War Office in Lebanon
They are currently opened in the summer months on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The public counts on us to open the buildings so they can learn some of the history within. Many children visit us each year to learn what they may have missed in school.
One of our objectives as a society is to teach about the revolutionary war and what our patriot ancestors did to win our freedom. These properties are the best tools we have to achieve this goal.
We need you to volunteer to be docents to open the buildings. It's easy and fun. You'll meet some great people who are interested in history and America. We will send you plenty of information to get prepared. No prior knowledge is required, just your willingness to learn and share.
Here's the schedule. Please look it over and let us know when you can help.
The blanks need to be filled.
All volunteers/docents will be invited to an appreciation dinner in September, so we can say thank you and give out some awards.
